Setting Lighting Profile
Important: The set of allowed dimming features depends on hardware vendor.
Lighting Profile
A lighting profile is a logical object, a set of power levels for one luminaire during one period between on and off trigger times specified in the Astronomical Calendar. Created and modified by the specialist. An unlimited number of lighting profiles can be created in the System. From the user’s point of view, the profile looks like a graph of power in the interval from the start time of street lighting to the end time of street lighting. The start and end lighting time are obtained from:
- astronomical calendar
- hardcoded in the profile
- calculated automatically in accordance to the geo location and choosen twilight type.
Luminaire and profile are not related directly (see Luminaire dimming)
This structure of the relationship between the profile and the luminaire allows, with a single change, to apply the lighting rules of a large number of luminaires, without the need to edit each luminaire individually.
The user sets the cut power (dimming level) as a percentage from 0 to 100, while when sent to the lamp, the value can be converted into DALI units in the range of 0..254 in a proportional or logarithmic form, depending on the vendor’s standard.
When setting dimming time intervals, the following rules are available:
- Switch to the next dimming level (lower or higher) after N minutes from switching on;
- Go to the next level of dimming (lower or higher) after N minutes from the start of the current level;
- Go to the next level of dimming (lower or higher) at the exact time of day;
- Go to the next dimming level (lower or higher) N minutes before shutdown;
- Smooth transition from the current dimming level until the end of the evening twilight;
- Smoothly transition from the current dimming level until the end of morning twilight.
Important: Ask developer what type of dimming intervals are support hardware vendor.
Change Lighting Profile

The panel above dimming schema with buttons Save and Cancel says that user is in edit mode.
-
Start changing values. The lighting profile view will be converted to the edit mode.
-
Set method of start lighting: Auto calculation by clicking to the arrows < left, right >. Activate twilight selection, by clicking to the link with currently selected twilight (CIVIL on the following example)

Click to the drop down list to get visible all supported twilights.

Choose any other twilight type.

Click Apply to temporary saving changes.
-
Click Add Step to add interval. Empty interval will be added at the end of existing intervals. User can move intervals using drag&drop.
-
Click Assign in the bottom right corner of the interval. Choose in the drop down list, when this interval shall end.
-
Catch interval box by the top side and move up/down to change power level.
-
Click Save.
-
Synchronize changes in the profile with luminaires.
Create Lighting Profile
Important: Ask developer what type of profile is complaint with hardware vendor.

- Go to *Lighting Rules->Profiles.
- Click button +Add New.
- Start entering unique identifier of the lighting profile (keep it short). Usually choose Astro-Linear(8) as type.
- Click Save. System will forward to the page with empty lighting profile.

Setting Empty Lighting Profile
Initial actions

- Set switch on time as Auto Calculation. Select twilight CIVIL.
- Click to the link Add step a few times. It will add several intervals.
Delete Unesessary Intervals

When user start dragging interval box, trash icons appears on the both sides. If user drops interval on icon, the interval will be deleted.
Recommended Profile Pattern

-
Automatically calculated switch on time - trigger time based on: day of the year, luminaire geo location, beginning of selected twilight.
-
The level 20% states the initial level of dimming, when trigger time (1) reached. Another interval starts when CIVIL twilight ends (Till twilight). The time is calculated automatically based on: day of the year, luminaire geo location, beginning of selected twilight (1)
During intervals Till twilight and From twilight the dimming level is changing gradually from 20% to 40% tailing to the automatically calculated length of the twilight length.
-
The level 40% states the level of dimming, when evening twilight ends. The interval ends at 02:00.
-
The level 100% states the level of dimming, applied immediately when previous interval end. The interval ends when morning twilight starts. The time is calculated automatically based on: day of the year, luminaire geo location, beginning of selected twilight (1).
-
The level 20% states final dimming level what will be reached gradually from 100% to 20% tailing to the the automatically calculated length of the morning twilight length.
-
Automatically calculated switch off time - trigger time based on: day of the year, luminaire geo location, end of selected twilight (1).
Change Profile State

- Choose New State “Active” it will make the profile available to be choosen in the lighting policy rules.
- Click button Save
Not Dimmable Lighting Profile
There is a special “Not dimmable” lighting profile holding set of commands to disable dimming rules uploaded to the luminaire earlier. Do not change this lighting profile.
